About the Schoolhouse Quilt Shoppe

The Schoolhouse Quilt Shoppe has been in business since 1976 in Canton, Ohio. This qualifies us as one of the first Quilt Shoppes in Ohio.

We stock over 5000 bolts of fabric for quilt-making and other home sewing projects. In addition to all of this wonderful fabric, we carry stencils, books, and all of the latest tools for quilting and sewing.

Another plus for the Schoolhouse Quilt Shoppe is that it happens to be the home of Judie Rothermel, creator of the "Aunt Grace" fabric line and all of the quilt-related fabrics produced by Marcus Brothers Textiles. Naturally, we carry every piece she designs here at the shoppe.

If you are ever in the area, please stop by and say hello.

About Judie Rothermel

Judie Rothermel co-owner with her husband Bob of the Schoolhouse Quilt shop, in Canton, Ohio has been teaching quilting for the past eighteen years and has been collecting antique fabric for nearly that long. For the past ten years through a collaborative effort with Marcus Brothers Textiles, Inc. she has been sharing her passion for old fabrics and nineteenth century quilts with others.

Using her personal collection of nineteenth century textiles as a guide, Judie designs and colors at least four fabric lines for Marcus each year. All of the fabric collections are of 100% cotton, and produced in American mills. Her first line produced in 1987 was a huge success. Since then she has produced many notable fabric lines, such as "Aunt Graces Scrapbag", and most recently, "Civil War Prints" and "Monticello". Each line has a theme, and is coordinated to work with the other fabrics in the line, or with previous lines.

Running the Schoolhouse Quilt Shop has inspired Judie to collect, study, design, and write. Each new project seems to have been a response to a personal interest, a trend in the shop, or the desires of her customers. Her knowledge of antique fabrics resulted from extensive reading, and studying fabric collections in Institutions such as the Shelburne Museum in Vermont.

Miniature quilts and applique are time consuming interest for Judie and part of her teaching schedule at the Schoolhouse. In addition to this Judie has been writing pattern books for miniature and applique quilts. Most recently she has been producing books to promote the use of her fabric designs in quilts. The latest of her books entitled "Aunt Grace's Scrapbag", and "Aunt Grace - 25th Anniversary" are currently in print. In these books Judie shows what she has done with the fabrics she has designed.
